Archipiélago: Futuros Especulativos (español e inglés) es un libro ilustrado con realidad aumentada que imagina cómo será la evolución de los animales y el medio ambiente en el futuro como resultado del cambio climático. ¿Cuáles son los drásticos cambios que estamos provocando en nuestro clima y cómo afectarán a los cambios evolutivos del planeta? Este proyecto está inspirado en el innovador libro de evolución especulativa "After Man" de Dougal Dixon. Al igual que el trabajo de Dixon, utilizamos principios biológicos reales y exploramos procesos de la vida real, como la evolución y el cambio climático, mediante el uso de resultados ficticios. Al extrapolar tendencias pasadas al futuro, podemos predecir los escenarios más probables de cómo ciertos organismos y linajes podrían responder a los cambios ecológicos. Archipelago: Speculative Futures (Spanish and English) is an augmented reality illustrated book imagining what the evolution of animals and the environment will be in the future resulting from climate change. What are the dramatic changes we are doing to our climate, and how will it affect the evolutionary changes of the planet? This project is inspired by the ground breaking speculative evolution book, “After Man” by Dougal Dixon. Like Dixon’s work, we are using real biological principles and are exploring real life processes, such as evolution and climate change, through the use of fictional results. By extrapolating past trends into the future, we can predict the most likely scenarios of how certain organisms and lineages could respond to ecological changes. Archipiélago: futuros especulativos es una exposición interactiva que permite explorar un posible futuro, luego de la extinción de los humanos, donde especies extrañas y fabulosas habitarán las futuras islas en la faz de la tierra. Por medio del estudio de la teoría de la evolución e información científica sobre el futuro del planeta, los artistas Melanconnie y Faebian Cerúleo han creado las criaturas y los paisajes en donde habitan desde 90+ millones de años en el futuro, hasta 400+. Inspirados en el estudio de campo de islas alrededor del mundo, como Galápagos, Islandia y Providencia, los artistas han podido observar fenómenos que influyen en la evolución de un organismo, para recrearlo luego en hermosas pinturas digitales. La geología, la biología y el arte juegan en esta exposición para acercar el conocimiento científico sobre la evolución a los espectadores, dejando su imaginación volar hacia futuros posibles del planeta. Esta exposición cuenta con 12 dioramas hechos a mano, donde en cada uno se podrá ver gratis contenido en realidad aumentada, que comunica la ciencia relevante al proyecto, visiones profesionales sobre el cambio climático, procesos artísticos, mapas y mucho más para realmente entrar en un futuro posible. La realidad aumentada podrá verse simplemente escaneando con un celular a través de la app Artivive. Estreno mundial en La Muestra Internacional Documental de Bogotá (MIDBO).
Archipelago: Speculative Futures (Spanish and English) is an augmented reality illustrated book, and 3D art and interactive exhibition imagining what the evolution of animals and the environment will be in the future resulting from climate change. What are the dramatic changes we are doing to our climate, and how will it affect the evolutionary changes of the planet? This project is inspired by the ground breaking speculative evolution book, “After Man” by Dougal Dixon. The project is a mixture of pop-culture, science, innovative technology, and dynamic storytelling to address climate change. In addition, the artwork can be scanned with an augmented reality (AR) app that brings the imagined animals to life with 3D animation. Archipelago: Speculative Futures is perfectly designed for interactive exhibitions or science museums’ interactive displays, as well as schools.
Speculative evolution can be used as an educational and scientific tool and useful in exploring and showcasing patterns in the present and in the past. By extrapolating past trends into the future, scientists can research and predict the most likely scenarios of how certain organisms and lineages could respond to ecological changes. The modern speculative evolution movement is generally agreed to have begun with the publication of Dougal Dixon’s 1981 book “After Man,” which explored a fully realized future Earth with a complete ecosystem of over a hundred hypothetical animals. Like Dixon’s work, we are using real biological principles and are exploring real life processes, such as evolution and climate change, through the use of fictional results. By extrapolating past trends into the future, we can predict the most likely scenarios of how certain organisms and lineages could respond to ecological changes. Archipelago: Speculative Futures includes video interviews with Dougal Dixon in the augmented reality elements.

MELANCONNIE es ilustradora y animadora. Como activista de género y raza, ha sido fundadore de un colectivo artístico, Severas Nenas, que realizó múltiples proyectos de sensibilización y acción a nivel local e internacional. Nominade a mejor videoclip en Bogoshorts 2021 con el videoclip feminista “Los Chicos Si Lloran” de la banda ganadora del Grammy Diamante Eléctrico. Egresade de la Universidad de los Andes en Bogotá, Colombia, creó Superhéroes y talleres de cómic en Bogotá. Ilustró Priya and the Wolves & Priya and the Swarm. Su amor por el dibujo solo se compara con su amor por los insectos.
MELANCONNIE is an illustrator and animator. As a gender and race activist, they has been founder of an art collective, Severas Nenas, which did multiple projects for awareness and action locally and internationally. Nominated for best videoclip on Bogoshorts 2021 with feminist music video “Los Chicos Si Lloran” for the Grammy winning band Diamante Eléctrico. Graduated from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, they created Super Sheroes and comic workshops in Bogotá. They illustrated Priya and the Wolves & Priya and the Swarm. Their’s love for drawing is only matched by their love for insects.
FAEBIAN CERULEO es un artista plástico e ilustrador de Bogotá, Colombia y fue grabador y tatuador durante casi una década. Su interés por la naturaleza lo involucró en muchos proyectos de agroecología y permacultura en la construcción y diseño de espacios habitables sostenibles.
FAEBIAN CERULEO is a plastic artist and illustrator from Bogotá, Colombia and was a printmaker and tattoo artist for almost a decade. His interest for nature involved him in many agroecology and permaculture projects in the building and designing of sustainable living spaces.
